![]() ![]() I went to remap the bike with the UpMap interface. it features a resonance chamber link pipe that probably serves to reduce dB and also offer a decent back-pressure.Īnyway, after installation of my Termi & air filters. I'll also note that the Termi exhaust I have fitted isn't a straight-through 'slip-on'. My thoughts are that in doing this, I'm really not increasing the airflow in any significant way. However, I covered this with a K&N 'Round' foam filter, which acts as a pre-filter. I made no modifications to the Sled airbox but I did swap the paper filter for a K&N oiled cotton filter, which theoretically offers a higher rate of air flow. I also grabbed an 'UpMap' device to flash a new map to my sled.' I purchased a Termignoni exhaust from Motostorm in Italy because it was $ O N E T H O U S A N D dollars less expensive than a Ducati dealer purchase. I've been through this recently with my 2022 Desert Sled purchase. UpMap kits for reprogramming ECUs of DUCATI motorcycles - Numero Uno (termignoni.store) This sounds like a specific question for a Desert X owner or the Termignoni thread. It might be that you just bolt on the XYZ race pipe of your choice and the bike tunes/re-maps itself - the next time you do the now famous "10 minute idle ECU warm up" routine. So it could well be that in this modern day age of electronic rider aids and bikes with artificial intelligence - that can do everything short of read your horoscope for you. for different mapping fuel grades, climate conditions, rarified atmosphere/altitude etc. ![]() I have come to understand that many of the ECU's on modern bikes have the ability to "re-tune" or recalibrate themselves. The caveat to all of the above (and I do not claim to be an ECU electronics wizard by any stretch of the imagination). ![]() and see if it needs adjustment to account/compensate for any changes in exhaust flow/performance. Or at least I would put it on a diagnostic to see what the "new" exhaust does to the various lambda values etc. I would imagine that the re-mapping of the ECU might be required. So my initial answer to your question (of fitting an aftermarket exhaust sytem to a Ducati Desert X) would be - yes. most of them just bolted the flash shiny bits on and (placebo) convinced themselves in their own mind of an imporovement. Most of them without ever considering what the jetting, or ignition timing (might) have to do with the engine performane. to the thousands of (brand name goes here) silencers that Bruce, Dave, Mick and Chas have been bolting onto dirtbikes, street bikes and adventure bikes since the 80's - to make them (lighter) "go fast and sound good". From little Tyrone and the DG porcupine head and snail cam power pipe, that his boof head dad fitted to his YZ80E to make it "go fast and handle good". I've just bought a full system for my multi which comes with an upmap, i'll use it because it takes advantage of the freer flowing system making more power and torque where the bike is ridden most, plenty buy the system from parts vendors rather than dealers so no upmap is supplied, I'm assuming they run the std map because there's very little on offer for the Bosch ECU in the DVT Multi.ĪNY time you make a component change that alters the rate of fow of air/fuel mixture into the engine (carburetion/jetting/airfilter etc.) OR alters the rate of flow of the exhaust gases from the engine (exhaust system/slip-on/silencer etc.) - simple logic tells you that you alter the parameters for how the engine will perform/run.įor years and years (since I have been aware of) this is the number one fcuk knukle farkle fanatic misstake that just about every fred nerk magazine page hot set-up tip tosser has ever made. after a day i rode it again and it was much improved so i'm confident the ECU has the capacity to adjust the fueling to some extent, whether it's enough or not? only way to know is to make it adjustable and map it on a dyno. Initially it felt awful, very harsh throttle response, not very responsive and basically just not pleasant. That's what i have found with all of my injected bikes for years, with one exception, my 1200 Multi needed a new filter so i added a BMC hi flow version along with the 2017 airbox lid which is not only much larger with a larger opening but it also has a gasket that directs airflow into the airbox from above the radiator rather than drawing in hot air from behind the radiator. In my experience changing the exhaust and not remapping it is likely not going to cause a problem, typically however, adding a hi flow air filter on my bikes (Dukes) makes them run lean which makes them feel harsh and not very nice to ride. ![]()
